Pharmacy residency

Critical Care Systems is a national provider of home infusion services and a subsidiary of Accredo Health Group, Inc., and Medco Health Solutions, Inc.

Through a national footprint of more than 40 branch pharmacies, Critical Care Systems offers both adult and pediatric patients an alternative to hospitalization for comprehensive infusion services.  More than 1,200 professionals, including 800 clinicians, provide home infusion therapies in alternate sites of care, such as a patient’s home or our ambulatory infusion suites.

This innovative PGY1 residency targets the development of clinical practice, pharmacy operations, and management expertise in specialty infusion pharmacy, providing services to home and ambulatory patients.  It will prepare the residents to practice in and manage specialty infusion pharmacies.

Residents complete the PGY1 pharmacy practice residency in the care environment of specialty infusion pharmacy services, based at one of the company branch pharmacies.  Residents also participate in company-wide Clinical Universities, and rotate with national, regional, and academic preceptors for nutrition support, reimbursement, risk management, performance improvement, and drug information.

Our residents can expect:

  • Opportunities to participate in all aspects of specialty branch and corporate infusion pharmacy services (development of clinical, operational, and management skills)
  • Participation in intensive professional development and training
  • Learning experiences focused on interdisciplinary care coordination, patient assessment, infusion device selection and management, care planning, patient monitoring, medication reconciliation and review, patient and caregiver education, drug information support, compounding of sterile preparations, inventory and supply management, supervising technicians, development and presentation of policies and training programs, and pharmacy quality assurance
  • Training and clinical practice experience in specialty infusion therapies, including parenteral nutrition, anti-infective therapy/infectious diseases, inotropics/heart failure, factor/bleeding disorders, immune globulins, and other injectable therapies used in home and ambulatory care settings
  • Precepting by national, regional, and academic experts in nutrition support, reimbursement, risk management, and drug information
  • Elective drug information rotations and other off-site residency networking opportunities
  • Site-specific and/or nationally focused residency projects
  • Presentations and participation at regional and national professional meetings
