Specialty clinical services – infectious diseases

Critical Care Systems is dedicated to providing high-touch, clinical care and customer service to both pediatric and adult patients with infectious diseases.  Each community-based branch pharmacy has a multidisciplinary team to manage a patient’s infectious disease support needs.

What are infectious diseases?
Infectious diseases occur when the immune system fails to kill pathogenic microorganisms that grow within the body and cause disease.  Anti-infective therapy, the intravenous infusion of antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungal drugs, is used to treat infections that do not respond to oral medications.

What is anti-infective therapy?
Anti-infective therapy can be provided safely in the home or alternate-site setting such as an ambulatory infusion suite.

Home administration of anti-infective therapy is particularly beneficial for patients who require long-term anti-infective therapy or have chronic infections not treatable with oral agents.1

Most anti-infective therapies are administered at specific intervals, typically two or three times a day, depending upon the specific drug.

Critical Care Systems offers anti-infective therapies for a number of infectious diseases, including:

  • Abscesses
  • Bacterial endocarditis
  • Cellulitis
  • Chronic urinary tract infections
  • Community acquired pneumonia
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Lyme disease
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Pancreatitis
