What are infectious diseases?
Infectious diseases occur when the immune system fails to kill pathogenic microorganisms that grow within the body and cause disease. Anti-infective therapy, the intravenous infusion of antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungal drugs, is used to treat infections that do not respond to oral medications.
What is anti-infective therapy?
Anti-infective therapy can be provided safely in the home or alternate-site setting such as an ambulatory infusion suite.
Home administration of anti-infective therapy is particularly beneficial for patients who require long-term anti-infective therapy or have chronic infections not treatable with oral agents.1
Most anti-infective therapies are administered at specific intervals, typically two or three times a day, depending upon the specific drug.
