Critical Care Systems is dedicated to providing high-touch, clinical care and customer service to both pediatric and adult patients with infectious diseases.  Each community-based branch pharmacy has an experienced multidisciplinary team who can manage all aspects of a patient’s infectious disease support needs.

What are infectious diseases?

Infectious diseases occur when the immune system fails to kill pathogenic microorganisms that grow within the body and cause disease.  Anti-infective therapy, the intravenous infusion of antibiotic, antiviral or antifungal drugs, is used to treat infections that do not respond to oral medications.

Anti-Infective Therapy

Anti-infective therapy can be provided safely in the home or alternate-site setting such as an ambulatory infusion suite.  Benefits include improved patient quality of life and increased patient satisfaction, decreased costs associated with hospital stays, and decreased risk of hospital acquired infections.

Home administration of anti-infective therapy is particularly beneficial for patients who require long-term anti-infective therapy or have chronic infections not treatable with oral agents.

Most anti-infective therapies are administered at specific intervals, typically two or three times a day, depending upon the specific drug.

Critical Care Systems offers anti-infective therapies for a number of infectious diseases, including:

  • Abscesses (possibly post surgical)
  • Bacterial endocarditis
  • Cellulitis
  • Chronic urinary tract infections
  • Community acquired pneumonia
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Lyme disease
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (most common in patients with AIDS)
  • Post-Transplant (secondary to immunosuppression)
  • Sepsis
  • Wound infections
